Mixer Module Updates

Mixing Plane

For users of the Mixer Module, COMSOL Multiphysics® version 6.2 introduces a new Mixing Plane feature for 3D geometries to model flow in rotating machinery, for example, in mixers. This feature works by averaging flow quantities in the direction of rotation and uses a quasistationary approach that offers a more accurate alternative to the frozen rotor approach. The mixing plane approach is an efficient method for modeling sectors of centrifugal pumps, turbines, and compressors.

The UI settings and results for the new Mixing Plane feature. Only a sector of 1/24 of the rotor–stator configuration needs to be modeled, but in this example, 24 sectors are plotted.
