parameterize glass fiber taper?

I'm trying to optimize the taper of a glass fiber in a mirror suspension application. But to do that I need to parameterize the fiber. I've tried to create the solid 3D fiber with a parameterized 2D curve and a Convert to Solid node, but that doesn't seem to work, Comsol can't mesh the solid fibers. When I change the model to an a Assembly instead of a Union, it meshes everything and my Frequency study runs, but I run into this problem: www.comsol.de/community/forums/general/thread/27125/#p73707

Any suggestions?
