problem of discontinuity on a steel bar ; application of butler volmer equation

i have created a steel bar in a block of concrete, on which the butler volmer equation has been applied; half-bar is passive and the other half bar is active. However, in the frontier passive-active there is a problem of discontinuity, passing from the one passive boundary condition directly to the active one. As a result, i cannot get the expected data. Could anyone propose me a solution in order to overcome the particular problem?

Thank you in advance;

Marilena
