How to add point loads on an irregular surface?

I have scanned a geometry and now want to simulate the 3 or 4 points flexural test on it (See the image)  I am still working on how to import the file correctly into COMSOL (It shows some wired edges on the geometry!). Let's say I can figure that out!

How can I add point loads on an irregular surface while I don't have any vertex/point on that specific spot on the geometry?

Hello Mehdi,

You could intersect the object with a line to force the creation of a point on the surface of the object. But bear in mind that point forces don't actually exist in the real world, and result in infinite stresses in theory, so you're often better off applying forces that are distributed over smaller patches instead: this is also what happens in the real world. You can create such patches on the surface of the object by intersecting the object with other objects (See the model file I created for Austin in this old thread for an example).

Hi Jeff, Thank you for your response. That makes a lot of sense. However, I run into an issue when I try to create the intersection (I use "Partition Objects" as you've shown in your example). Please see the attached images.

Both object and tool object disapear and nothing is left! Do you have any advice on that? Is it related to the geometry I imported into COMSOL?!

An alternative could be to add a concentrated load at an arbitrary geometrical location (without having a point). A technique for doing that is discussed in another old thread.
