Using the COMSOL Reaction Engineering Lab in the classroom
Based on chemical reaction formulas, the COMSOL Reaction Engineering Lab automatically sets up and solves mass and energy balances for the study of problems within the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering. Through the following features it lets students concentrate on the interaction between reactions rather than the software:

Analysis of the Synthesis of Ibuprofen.
- Easy-to-set up reaction mechanisms—Type in chemical reaction equations as you would write them with pen and paper. Enter thermodynamic data, and then the mass and energy balances of coupled reaction mechanisms are automatically available for simulation
- Ideal reactors—The software implements the physics and ODEs describing mass and energy balances for perfectly-mixed, batch, semibatch, continuously-stirred tank (CSTR), and plug-flow reactors for arbitrary chemical kinetics
- Seamless import to the Chemical Engineering Module—by combining these software packages, students can understand the effects that space (and not only time) can have on a reaction’s passage through a reactor
