Long Period Gratings (LPG) in Photonic Crystal Fibres

A numerical model of long-period gratings in photonic crystal fibres is presented and illustrated on the example of a grating fabricated by an electric-arc.

Resonant modes responsible for the attenuation bands in the transmission spectrum of the grating are identified and a correspondence with a grating in the step-index fibre established.

The model is justified by good agreement between the calculated and measured grating sensitivity to external parameters.
