New Product Video Tutorial: LiveLink™ for Solid Edge®

November 22, 2012

With the latest COMSOL release, Version 4.3a, comes new CAD interoperability. We are delighted to introduce LiveLink™ for Solid Edge® seamless associativity between Siemens’ CAD experience and COMSOL’s multiphysics simulation software. A LiveLink™ for Solid Edge® video tutorial demonstrates this integration, and gives you a leg up in your design modeling. In this video, the three main features to help you design, optimize, and troubleshoot your geometries are demonstrated.

The LiveLink synchronization feature is a time-saver that makes your models easier to modify and tinker with, and obtain the most effective simulation. With LiveLink™ for Solid Edge® any changes made to the geometry in Solid Edge® can be easily transferred to COMSOL with one click of the synchronization button. On top of that, COMSOL will retain your already-defined physics and boundary settings with any changes you make to your design.

Optimization is an essential component for a complete modeling process. It’s an everyday activity for engineers who are always trying to improve their results. The Optimization Module together with LiveLink™ for Solid Edge® can be used to solve a range of problems including shape, size, and time-dependent problems. Parameters change in COMSOL and Solid Edge® synchronously, so the target parameters will have changed the geometry in both environments once the problem is completed. This gives a consistent view of the results and streamlines the workflow.

Occasionally, you need to troubleshoot your model. Particularly if there are mesh errors or the mesh is too fine. LiveLink™ gives you two options to use when cleaning up a model: repairing and defeaturing. Repairing is advantageous for quick feature removal within a specified tolerance, such as slivers. The defeaturing tools give you more control with selective removal of larger model features, such as fillets or holes. Using these tools will make the simulation process more manageable and relevant, and run quicker.

This LiveLink™ for Solid Edge® video tutorial shows the user how to synchronize geometry from a Solid Edge® model, modify the parameters in COMSOL Multiphysics, and run a parametric sweep using those parameters.
