Finite Element Analysis


This undergraduate course is designed to introduce and incorporate finite element analysis with computing practices. FEA converts the conservation principles in engineering, combined with physics closure models, into computable forms via weak statement theory implementations.

Hands-on practical computing experience is a course key focus, but algorithm coding is not required! Instead, the COMSOL Multiphysics problem solving environment is used in all the computer exercises.

Professor A. J. Baker

With a PhD from SUNY/Buffalo and more than a decade of experience from the commercial aerospace industry (Textron/Bell Aerospace, NASA), A. J. Baker joined the University of Tennessee, College of Engineering in 1975 to lead academic research in the (then) new field of Computational Fluid Dynamics.

Now, Professor and Director of the UT CFD Laboratory, he has guided some 17 PhD dissertations and 18 MSc theses/projects, written two academic textbooks, and has authored over 270 technical publications in the CFD and FEA fields since 1970.
